Volunteers needed
The accomplishments and success of Hunts for Healing sponsored events wouldn’t be possible without the support of volunteers. The strength of our organization relies on the time, talent, skills and compassion that our community of volunteers bring to the table.
We encourage you to complete the volunteer application and indicate your areas of interest, areas of expertise, any special skills or talent you possess and your availability. From this information we compile a master list that enables us to call on those who best match our needs. Depending on the event, you may be asked to help with more than one item.
The following is a list of the types of positions we utilize:
1. Mentor: A mentor accompanies the guest in the fields, streams or lakes, and woodlands. The mentor makes sure that our guests are comfortable, instruct how to use any equipment they be given, and the mentor will give guidance and training as part of the event. A mentor and guide are assigned to each individual.
2. Guide: A guide and mostly likely a field dog, will also accompany our guest for the event. It is the responsibility of the guide to become familiar with the terrain, the equipment, any special gear or accommodations that our guests require . The guide manages the dog during the event.
3. Field Assistant: Persons working in this capacity will ready the field or hunting area insuring that the proper equipment or gear is in place, and that the game is located in areas easily accessable by our guests. Our goal is to insure a successful hunt or fishing experience and we do everything possible to make this happen.
4. Cooks and bakers: Any persons who have a love of food and a knack for preparing tasty, home-cooked items are encouraged to apply! We always have a need for soups, easy- to – heat casseroles, desserts, baked goods; and on occasion, bagged lunches with fresh fruit and beverages. We will coordinate with cooks and bakers our needs for the event and schedule meals appropriately.
5. Entertainment: If you sing, dance, play an instrument, tell jokes or have a group that can entertain, let us know what your talents so we may showcase them in the future.
We wish that we could accommodate all the kind and generous people who want to volunteer their services. As we grow, we hope to increase the opportunity to serve as we expand our scope of services. Future goals we hope to accomplish include building cabins for family use, purchasing or adapting equipment to use in the field and improve accessibility by constructing more ramps and trails for handicapped individuals.
Last but not least; we can always use help raising money to fund our events and to purchase items used by our heroes, so if you have an idea or wish to organize a fund raiser, please indicate that on the volunteer form.
